Park City, UT

WARNING!  This is a very long post about our trip... mostly so I remember it :)

We decided to escape a week of 100+ degree temperatures at home and head to the mountains of Utah.  Park City ended up being a great location.  It was a direct flight to Salt Lake City and only 45 minutes into the mountains.  

The trip almost started out horribly... Joe put my ticket on hold but never actually booked it.  We had to make a day-of (points) purchase for my ticket.  Joe had already been upgraded to 1st class (we paid for his ticket and were using points for mine).  We had to spend a ton of miles because only 1st class was left.  We ended up sitting in the bulkhead seats of 1st class.  I call that the best mistake EVER!  Plenty of room for Kamden to play at our feet. 

Saturday was a whirlwind of traveling and settling into the house we rented.  It was very exhausting but worth it.  The house was in the perfect location, 2 blocks from the city park and 2 blocks from main street.  The house was also very kid-friendly.  It had toys, kid DVDs, and a crib.

Our first full day in PC was Sunday.  They have the Silly Market in Park City on Main Street every Sunday in the summer.  It includes a lot of vendors, a farmers market, yummy food, beer garden, live music, and other random performers.  It was very entertaining for the little one.  We actually went twice... after morning nap and again in late afternoon.  We did a little swinging at the park that day (and most days while in PC).

 Joe and I had an agreement for this trip.  We alternated days waking up with Kamden and let the other stay in bed for a few hours.  Kamden wakes up at 6:30 at home and NEVER adjusted to the time change for the 8 days we were there.  This means he was up at 5:30 EVERYDAY.  We had some time to kill.  It is chilly in the mornings but we usually headed up to main street for coffee and breakfast or to swing in the park.  

You can see the picture on the left that he has a runny nose.  He had a pretty nasty cold and subsequent ear infection on vacation.  We all ended up being sick.  Joe (who ironically never takes prescription meds) went to the doctor for some relief.  Not fun!  The picture on the right is how Joe decided to dress him for the morning outing.  He also had a jacket on :)

 Joe had "his" day on Tuesday.  He spent about 5 hours fly fishing with a guide.  They caught about 9 trout but didn't save any.  You can only save the ones smaller than 15" and you can only save 2.  Wasn't really worth the hassle for us.  Kamden and I spent the day going to the pediatrician and confirming the ear infection.... luckily the meds kicked in before the flight home.

That evening we went shopping at the outlet malls.  When headed home the sky turned very smoky and ashes started falling.  It was a eerie sight... the sun being hid by smoke.  We were very concerned.  Not necessarily because we thought the fires would get to us but because the smoke was horrible for Kamden's cough.  Luckily the wind changed directions later that night and things cleared.

Happy 4th of July!

The 4th is a big deal in PC.  BIG parade, all day bbq & live music.  No fireworks this year.

Exhausted from all the excitement...

Thursday was "my" day.  I had a massage and facial.  Seriously AMAZING!  I had never had a facial and recommend it for anyone.  So relaxing!

Friday morning, we headed up the mountain into the Wasatch Forrest.  We heard that Mirror Lake was a beautiful place and was easy to get to.  We were not disappointed.  At 11,000 ft elevation it was a cool 55 degrees there in the morning.   

We walked around the lake and found a place for a little family picture.  Unfortunately, we couldn't get K to stop playing with the rocks and sand at his feet.

 

 We packed a picnic but "someone" wouldn't cooperate.  More interested in how the rocks tasted around us.  We decided to drive a little bit back down the mountain and found another place we were able to stop and eat.  He wouldn't stay on the blanket but at least he didn't shove everything in his mouth!

 On Saturday morning, we headed to Sundance for lunch.  The resort itself is very beautiful.  It is much smaller than we anticipated and not many shops or restaurants.  It feels very natural though... everything kind of tucked into corners and under trees.  Probably would have been more interesting if we were going to hike or bike.  

Saturday evening, we found the most amazing place for Kamden.  It was an indoor playground.  It had a decent size toddler area that he just loved!

On Sunday, we went back to the Silly Sunday Market in the morning and then went to the airport after naptime.  We had a 8pm flight home and Kamden basically slept the whole way.

Overall, it was a great trip.  Joe hasn't spent that much non-stop time with K since he was born.  We would definitely consider going again.
